Studio Policies

Clay Bodies 
The studio aims to offer a wide selection of clay bodies. Our studio clays: B Mix (cream), Speckled Buff (tan/beige with speckles), B Mix with Speckles (cream with speckles), B Mix with Grog (cream with grog), Hawaiian Red (red), Azabache Black (black), Porcelain 16 (white).

Clay must be purchased through the studio and the firing fees are $20 per 25lbs of clay. You are welcome to bring outside clay but you must pay $20 per bag and it must be verified by a staff member that it is mid fire cone 5/6 clay. No weighing your glazed pieces and printing out tickets, or extra firing fees for larger work yay!!

No outside clays are allowed for students. Members can place special orders for different clay bodies by emailing us at hello@claycoven.la. Members found to use outside clay without paying firing fees will not be allowed to fire their pieces and repeated offenses may lead to termination of membership.

Glazes 
The studio offers 15 dipping glazes, as well as a full color range of underglazes.

Spray Booth

Students are not allowed to use the spray booth, unless it is a intermediate class that goes over spray booth safety and procedures. The spray booth must be ventilated the entire time members are spraying at the spray booth. We recommend wearing safety goggles and a basic mask, ask us if you need one. 

Dremels/Sanding/Bone Dry Trimming

Dremels and Sanding are allowed in the parking lot/outdoor space of our studio. We require wearing safety googles when borrowing dremels - borrow one from us if you need. We recommend wearing a face mask. No bone dry trimming is allowed in the studio.

Tools and Equipment
Each studio has over 20 Shimpo wheels, a slab roller, handbuilding tables, wedging tables, and a wide selection of handbuilding tools. Communal tools are available, but members are encouraged to bring their own tools and bats.

Outside Firings and Kiln Rentals?
At the moment, we don’t offer outside firings and kiln rentals.

What is the Difference Between Memberships and Open Studio Access?
Members have 24/7 access to the studio, whereas students who sign up for classes have open studio access which is 10 am - 10 pm except for when classes or private events occur. You can view the open studio schedule HERE

Classes

What Are the Class Sizes?
Classes are generally between 5-11 people.

What's the Minimum Age for a Class?
Our classes are primarily designed for adults, but we do allow participants as young as 12 years old. If you wish to book a class for anyone under 18, please email us to notify the studio and we’ll recommend a class that will be the best fit. A parent must be present at all times a minor is at the studio, for classes and open studio, except during Kids Camps.

Class Materials and Clay
All materials and tools are provided for classes. Classes include unlimited class clay (B mix with grog) and unlimited firings (go HAM). Although communal tools are available, students are encouraged to buy their own tool set and 1 or 2 bats. Communal trimming tools can dull very quickly!

Make-Up Classes (6 week classes only)
Please carefully check your schedule before signing up for our classes. The first week is mandatory to attend as we give important information about studio procedures and safety. We're not able to offer any refunds after classes have started.
If you’re unable to attend a subsequent class, after week 1, please email us and we will try to place you in a makeup class in the same week. However, some classes only happen once a week and make-up classes are subject to availability.

Class Cancellation

We do our best to keep your class on schedule, however we need a minimum of signups to ensure our long-term sustainability. If your class has low enrollment, you will hear from us in the days leading up to it, with options to switch classes, reschedule, or receive a refund. 

Bisque and Glaze Piece Pick-Up
Pieces must be picked up within 90 days of your last class. Pieces left for over 90 days are subject to recycling, repuporposing, and disposal. 

Cancellation Policy 
All cancellation requests must be made via our email hello@claycoven.la
Refunds requested more than two weeks before the first class are refundable (minus the processing fee of $20). 
Refunds requested less than two weeks before the class are 50% refundable (minus the processing fee of $20). 
No refunds will be issued on or after the first class for any reason, including but not limited to COVID, illness, injury, or unexpected travel.
